"Ship of the year 2010" equipped with Integrated Navigation System from L-3 Valmarine

The subsea service vessel SKANDI AKER, owned by the Norwegian company DOFCON ASA and built at STX Norway Offshore AS – Søviknes, was declared “Ship of the Year 2010” by the Norwegian State Secretary Rikke Lind at the SMM 2010 trade show in Hamburg. 

 

It is thus evident that when it comes to technical features this ship is in the forefront in this field today. Onboard this highly advanced well-intervention vessel, well cleaning vessel, vessel for coil-tubing or drilling unit, or as introduced by the STX_broshipyard the collective term “Subsea Service Vessel”,  L-3 Valmarine has delivered a state of the art Integrated Navigation System SAM Electronics NACOS 35-5. - The system Integrates Radar, ECDIS, Conning, Autopilot (Track-pilot), AIS and VDR in one common network.

The total Navigation package from L-3 Valmarine consist of, on the Navigation bridge; Chart-radar 1100 X and S band with integrated operation of Track-pilot 1100, Chart-pilot 1100 ECDIS, Conning and Planning Station. On the Aft bridge a Chart-pilot Conning and Chart-radar remote station. L-3 Valmarine has also delivered the navigation sensors; Dual DGPS SAAB R4, Satlog SLS4120 and Echo sounder 4630. 

 

SKANDI AKER has a diesel electric propulsion system, and her dimensions are impressive: 156.9m l.o.a., 27m breadth and depth molded of 12m. The deck measured about 2,100 m2 prior to installation of the rucker deck and derrick.

The prestigious SHIP OF THE YEAR-award is instituted by the major Nordic shipping magazine SKIPSREVYEN. Price candidates are nominated by the readers of the magazine, but the final election is the responsibility of a jury consisting of the former MD of the Norwegian Ship-owners’ Association, Mr Rolf Sæther; the MD of Norwegian Shipbuilders' Sales and Marketing Organisation, Mr Birger Skår; and the Publisher of Skipsrevyen, Mr Asle Strønen.
